Scented Clematis suggestion for a pot

kkudikkudi Posts: 25
I have a fairly large pot (50cm diameter and about 37cm high).

It has been suggested to me to put an obelisk in the middle of the pot and put a clematis type of plant.

Do you have any suggestions on any that

1. Do well in a pot
2. Have a nice scented smell and perhaps bloom in June onwards?

If clematis isn't the right type of plant to put in such a pot, what are your suggestions for a suitable plant that has a strong fragrance and would thrive in a pot of that size?

That pot is too small for anything but a Boulevard clematis - new introductions bred to get to 3 to 4 feet high and do well in pots.   I have no idea if any are scented.   Generally speaking, except for the almond scented ones which get much bigger and will overwhelm an obelisk, perfumed clematis have a very subtle scent.

I suggest instead you think about a repeat flowering, scented rose such as Ballerina or The Fairy.

This is the smallest scented clematis l could find

Taylors say it's suitable for pots, but it's a non clinging type. As Obelixx says, a rose may be a better option.

I haven't had much luck growing roses successfully for some reason. Do you recommend anything else that won't need repotting in a few years?

Has it definitely got to be perfumed?

In that case, l'd go back to Obelixx's suggestion and take a look at the "Boulevard" clematis series. They come in a range of colours, l have "Nubia", which is a dark red.
I've posted a link to Evison's site but many clematis suppliers stock them   :)
