Divided a flowering Geum

CopperdogCopperdog Posts: 519
Hello I divided this plant last week and planted it in the front garden. (It had sat in a pot by the side of the garage for over a year poor thing!). Incredibly it was flowering beautifully.  Should I now cut the flowers off to the base to give it half a chance to bed down into the soil.  It is flailing around quite a bit and wondered if I have possibly traumatised it with my late division.  Many thanks

It would be a kindness to remove the flowers. The plant will need to put all its energy into rooting into the surrounding soil and getting over the trauma of being cut in two.

Thanks Ceres.  Should I cut each whole flower stem down to the base or just do a half height cut?

I would cut the stems right down  :)

Could I barge into your thread and ask whether you should deadhead geums at any stage?
    In London. Keen but lazy.

Yes, keep deadheading for more flowers  :)
