Gazania. Should I divide them?

B3B3 Posts: 25,252
Some of my gazanias have survived two or three winters. Some of them have become quite clumpy with few flowers.
Should i divide them? Also, as they've grown, they are much closer together than when i planted them. Would it be better to just space them out a bit more?

My gazanias never survive the winter and never grow into dividable clumps but a friend has some that always survive. She gave me a big clump and told me to divide them so I did and now I have about 20 plants.

Looks like dividing is the way to go then.
I think some varieties survive better than others. A plain greeny cream one seems the hardiest and the plain rich rusty red one.

I am so pleased to asked this question B3, and Busy-Lizzie for the answer.  I too have a couple of large clumps of gazanias, which have survived a few winters (others died off), and as you say, have fewer and fewer flowers each year.  So I am going to try out your suggestion Busy, perhaps tomorrow. Thank you.

I'm plucking up the courage. I'm going to do some and see what happens @Guernsey Donkey2

  • I inadvertently started another Gazinia thread today @B3. Suffice to say my divided Gazinia are doing really well, providing new flowers too, and I hope you have had success with yours too.

I've divided them but there's nowhere convenient to put them in full sun as yet so they're squashed into a trough at the moment. They're flowering, but not as well as they will when I plant them in the ground again. You've stabbed my conscience so I'll find them a place😊

I'm glad yours are doing well, so are mine. At least they were when I last saw them, been away.

Maybe you couldn’t find this thread as you are spelling it with an I instead of an A.🙂
