Please help. I have kept a lady if shallot rose in a large pot but it appears to have dried out terribly. I have refreshed compost. Should I prune back hard ?? Thanks in advance
It's not the ideal time of year to prune back hard, the shock may kill it, alternatively, it could shock it into putting out new growth! (Have you scratched the bark to check whether of not it is still alive - should be green underneath where you try, look at the roots too) Make sure you use a good compost, e.g. John Innes no 3, or a compost formulated especially for roses. Good luck, I hope you see some new growth soon. Watering containers can be difficult, especially if they are in direct sun, or get dried out by the wind. Roses are very thirsty and soon use up all the moisture in a pot.
