My lovely healthy acer has suddenly become brown and scorched looking. Could this be windburn or dehydration.

If it's scorched it's probably wind or hot sun.
    In London. Keen but lazy.

When acers are in the right situation they seem to thrive but if they don't like the place where they are sited they soon let you know don't they.

It can also be caused by lack of water the previous year. The plant then struggles to maintain the new foliage.
It's a place where beautiful isn't enough of a word....
