I can only suggest it may have suffered in last year's hot dry spells and in some areas it's been a pretty dry winter and spring so maybe it needs some generous watering and then a mulch of well-rotted garden compost or manure to add nutrients and retain the moisture. A feed of liquid seaweed might give it a boost and I would first clear away that leaf litter and any weeds that may be sheltering whichever pest is chewing the foliage.
Looks like a lovely plant to have so now it's on my wishlist. Hope yours recovers.
