Help with insect identification please

Can anyone help identify this insect? I came across it while watering my plants and I don’t think I’ve ever come across it before. I thought it was a very attractive insect.
Thank you.

Never seen that before. Looking at the shape could it be related to shield bugs

It’s probably the Hairy Shield Bug.

Thank you very much for your help and very quick response. My nursery class who have been exploring mini beasts will be very impressed with that name too!

It’s a lovely bug, I’m sure the children will be very impressed. They always bring bugs and worm to show me when I’m on playground duty. My capacity to be amazed is renewed every day through their eyes.

Probably centaurea montana, the perennial cornflower.

Yes Pitter-Patter, the children do amaze me everyday! The information they retain and the questions they ask, it makes it all worthwhile.
