My acer is now in a very large pot(we are not allowed to plant into the ground pots only)my problem is if we dont re pot will the acer survive in the same pot over the years,and is there anything i can do to help it

Every few years just scrape off the top few inches of soil and add new soil. A liquid feed once a year would not go amiss. And of course the sensible stuff like making sure it is watered regularly through the summer.
