Hi can anyone tell me why 2 different varieties of clematis are growing like a bush type plant and not growing upwards climbing up the wall/stick like they normally do? I have grown clematis for years and never had this

@Sandra23
there are varieties of clematis that are bush types, the one that springs to mind is "Wyevale"

Do you know which varieties they are ?

Crystal Fountain is comparatively short (1.8m), but l wouldn't describe it as a bush type, although Thorncroft describe it as compact

Paradiso is also short, only about 1.5m or so.

I must admit l don't know why they have turned into bushes as opposed to climbers Sandra. I am stumped ! Hopefully one of the clematis experts on here can help.
