We are in a new house and this has appeared from nowhere. What is it please?

    Common name is Solomon seal ( polygonatum ) Slugs / snails love them.

    I love it too. Just seems to multiply every year.

    I love it.  Watch out for grey sawfly larvae which can strip the foliage in a couple of days or so and leave them looking a real mess.  Unfortunately, the birds seem to find the larvae distasteful so I regularly pick 'em off by hand once I see the damage start.
    A trowel in the hand is worth a thousand lost under a bush.

    They are a pain, but they look quite funny when you see them doing synchronised eating :)
