Identify invasive weed please

Part of my daughter's garden has been invaded by this weed. It smothers plants and sprouts up in the lawn from long trailing roots. Any ideas what it is?

I think it’s Polygonum baldschuanicum also known as Fallopian baldschuanica - The Mile a minute plant.  A thug!  My husband used to call it Bullshitanicum!

    Russian vine / mile-a-minute?
  • Ooh, I think you could be right! I have only known it as  a climber, whereas in this case it's more of a crawling, trailing plant. But in my own garden, there's an annoying Russian Vine that hangs over my wall from next door, and sure enough it's very similar, including the red stems. Thank you!
