Unhappy plant ID please

Please can anyone identify this plant and help me get it looking more happy! I’ve had it for a while and sad to say I have ignored it. I tried the copper strips for slugs with no success. I am a newbie to gardening 🌿 thanks in advance.

    Thank you nutcutlet. Can I do that just now even though it is starting to flower?

    You can do that now, I’ve just done mine,
    Gardening on the wild, windy west side of Dartmoor.

    Actually I don’t mind them turning red. It’s nice to leave a few on, they make a good shelter for little creatures. And they don’t get eaten by slugs.

    I like the red but mine go brown and dead looking
