Portuguese Laurel

I’m very new to this , I bought 200 Portuguese Laurel in 2 L pots , I recently re potted into 5 L and they are thriving . I have a large perimeter to hedge and would like to take slips from plants and re pot in my spare 2 L pots , when and how should I do this ??

  • oh my goodness you need more than 200 of the same plant, you must have a football stadium to hedge!

  • I can't stand those laurels, but as far as I know they are easy to propagate with cuttings. Someone who grows them will come forward. I'm from the culinary laurel brigade ;)

    It suggests semi-ripe cuttings in late summer/early Autumn is the way to go with Portuguese laurel. You could try softwood cuttings early if they need to be clipped anyway.

    The RHS recommend semi-ripe cuttings, but it wouldn't hurt to also try hardwood cuttings placed in the final planting position, some time in late autumn. I tried this with Hebe once (a long time ago) and pretty much every cutting worked. If it worked, it would significantly reduce the amount of effort required.
