My box shrubs have got what looks like a white powder/ eggs on, is this dangerous

Best post a photo of them. There was another thread with some photos similar to what you describe, and I think they are either Mealybugs or scale. They thrive in warm and dry conditions. Best to blast them with a jet spray setting on the hose on a cloudy day.

My box hedge seems to get this every year so I don't take any more notice.
