Propagate broken Bleeding Heart stem?

guttiesgutties Posts: 224
I bought a fairly large Bleeding Heart today from my local nursery.
When I was carrying it out from the car the below stem broke off.  Is it possible to propagate this so that it's not lost?
If so, how?

Commiserations it is a shame, they are so brittle.
You could cut most of the top off and just plant the bottom piece. Cut it off down to the lowest leaf joint the bit with a pair of leaves that has the one good leaf and broken one.

Not sure if the big kinds of dicentra have the same stems as the little ones. But the littler ones we have readily root from similar pieces.
Nothing to lose?  Maybe even take off that lower leaf, keep the section in moist soil in shade.
    Good Luck.

Yes you can take off the bottom leaves put into a pot of damp compost and reduce the top leaves by one third keep out of direct sunlight in a sheltered spot they can take some time to root keep growing on and plant out in autumn.
