Creeping oxalis is driving me crazy!

I've got this weed in my garden - I think it is called Creeping Oxalis - and it's driving me crazy! If you try and dig it up it's almost impossible as there are runners going down and along a long way and you always end up breaking it off. They are thin and spindly so break easily anyway, I don't normally let it flower as I figure then it can set seeds and multiply more but it's getting worse each year! Any advice on how best to get rid of it?

I love it in my garden,so pretty!
If you really have to get rid of it Glyphosate works.

Bill and Ben, Welcome to my world that and creeping charlie. As madpenguin said Glyphosate works, don't try and pull it out as if you leave any root it will just come up again.

glyphosate is the only thing I've found which sorts it out. My polytunnel is full of it.

  • Thank you! Have been pulling it out for 3/4 years since it started but will move onto chemical warfare now!

As you've found, the tap root is very brittle and it'll just keep regrowing if you're weeding by hand.

  • Yes - it's a complete waste of my effort! I'm off to the garden centre tomorrow for the glyphosate!

I had an oxalis (dont know which one exactly) I let it grow and grow, waiting to see if the flowers made it worth it being there, ended up pulling it out - not even one flower and a growing mass which just got bigger and bigger :(

Your one looks pretty at least!
