Non-expert needs help! - plant identification

Hi folks,

I have this plant in my garden of a house I have recently bought (the large plant in the photo), and have asked around but no one is able to identify what it is or if it is some kind of weed.  Any ideas?  Any comments and advice would be much appreciated.  Many thanks

    euphorbia, something or other. ( too early ) said to deter moles, but it doesn't . Watch out for the milky sap if you cut it as some, SOME people react badly too it. Best to wear gloves

    A euphorbia of some kind, l think. Sorry, brain not quite awake yet !  :)

    That's great.  Thanks so much to both of you for your help and advice!  My brain also needs a kick-start here.  Coffee is required :)
