Plant/Weed ID please?

Hello All,

Could you please help in identifying this. Is it a plant (what plant) or a weed?

Thank you!

The top one looks like acanthus spinosa... the middle one is a sow-thistle, and the bottom one looks like another acanthus.

Acanthus spinosus top and bottom, Sow Thistle in the middle

  • Oh wow! Thank you @Dovefromabove and @nutcutlet

In my days of zero garden knowledge (only last year so I am still only a baby gardener) and the complete ignorant state of the existence of this group, I pulled them all out of the ground last year, or so I thought.

They've all come back (clearly) and I though I better ask all my newly found clever gardeners.

So looks like they are keepers then.

    Thank you once again!

    Acanthus, keep
    Sow Thistle, don't keep :)

  • Or is Thistle a weed? Should I pull it out?
  • @nutcutlet You must be a mind reading clever gardener
    Thank you!

Thistle has a long tap root which will regrow if only pulled and snapped.  Use a fork to get down deep and take it all out.

  • Ok @Obelixx Thank you for that pointer. I will try although I think it might be a bit tricky as it under all that gravel which in turn has weed fabric beneath it.
