    Is it all like that? It looks like fasciation

  • All the greenery has that look. There are several standing dead branches with needles that look "normal"

    I don't know what sugi is so I don't know what it should look like but that looks weird. Of course, there are varieties of plants deliberately bred to look weird :)

    Apparently it's a Japanese red cedar @nutcutlet . I had to look it up , never heard of it.

    No, it's supposed to look like this.l think you're right and it's some kind of fasciation .

    but im not sure if it tells us what we want to know ... there is reference to some interesting growth patterns ‘in spirals’ ... but if that is what your tree is doing I don’t know 🤔
