Acer in flower

hi all. We have had an acer in the garden for around 16+ years. This is the first year I have noticed it has long flower buds. Is the tree under stress or is it normal. I’m not sure what variety it is. It has peach/pink leaves, that then turn green and then into yellow. Please see the photo. Thanks so much.

Maybe not mature enough to flower before, or conditions were just right over the last year. It's normal for plants to flower and seed, that's how they reproduce in nature
