Hi, can someone give me some info on this gorgeous little plant that is growing under my privet hedge. Would I be able to transplant it if I am careful I would love it for the front of my border but dont want to kill it off. Thanks

  • They're violets.  I'm not sure exactly which ones, though.  They should transplant pretty easily.

I think it may be viola oderata (sweet violet)?

They are lovely. They self seed so you'll have more next year.
I notice you have some Linaria (toadflax) seedlings too that I also grow (on the left of your photo).
They do get to 4-5ft and provide sturdy flower spikes in the summer, usually blue, but sometimes pink. Another lovely and easy to grow plant (that also self-seeds all over the place)

Hi, thanks Pete for the info on the other seedlings (Linaria) I have this in my border and lots of seedlings dotted around but never knew its name. I love these self seeding plants and finding them popping up where ever they please lol. :).

I think they are Viola Riviniana, the Dog Violet. They will do well so long it's not on a chalky soil.

Yes, and they don't smell. Too bad!
