I’m probably preaching to the converted here, having bought seeds from the high street of various stores, this year I purchased my seeds from a specialist seed supplier. Wow, what a difference in the quality of the seed and much improved germination. The young seedlings are fighting and pushing to get through emerging as young healthy plants, unlike shop bought seed even from well known brands.

what are your experiences?

just thought I’d share my findings so not sure if this is in the correct section on the forum.

I bought sweet peas from Lidl, 4 packs for £1. About 20 seeds per pack. 100% germination.

I only ever buy seeds from eBay, usually 99p per packet, with an offer as well, it depends on the time of the year I think,   My seeds have all been sown in the past 2 weeks and are all well up, usually in 2/3 days, I’ve never used a propagator or lights, just on  dining room table. 

You pay for the name and the label, mine come in a tiny bag, usually with no instructions, you need to look at the site for that, but all perfectly good seeds.

I had Wilkinson own lettuce last year 50p a packet I was harvesting lettuce all summer but I do like Chilterns seeds for more unusual plants , you pays your money and you takes your choice!

Any decent seller will always send new seed if you have poor germination, one company from Devon I know from experience a few years ago expect a minimum of 60% if you get less they will always send new.

Johnson's sent me an empty packet and wouldn't even send a replacement unless I sent them the empty packet! I didn't bother.

The quality of these Marshall seeds it super, they also sent a free packet of leek seeds and all packets came with decent labels.
