trimming query

Hi folks!  When would be the best time to trim this back? as you can see, it's got a bit out of hand, love the flowers and the berries that follow,(so do the birds), but would like it to be a bit tidier.  T.I.A. peterpiper

You can do them anytime , Peter. Obviously, you will lose flowers/berries, but if it needs done, then it needs done. They're tough as old boots.
You could wait until the flowers are finished so that you can see the shape you want to achieve more easily. I prefer them to have a natural shape so would just take individual stem/branches off to keep a loose outline, but others just give them a once over with a hedgetrimmer or shears in a round shape. Your shrub - your choice  :)
Mind the jaggy bits though  ;)
It's a place where beautiful isn't enough of a word....

I live in west central Scotland - not where that photo is...
  • Thanks muchly Fairygirl, think I'll leave it 'till after the birds have stripped the berries,
gives me more time to catch up with the rest of the stuff.
    Pete
