Noticed some reddish brown insects covering my Acer. They are on the leaves and all over the stem. Does anyone know what they are and how to get rid of them please?
They're likely to be Periphyllus aphids which live on maple/acer trees. A soap spray should sort them out if you don't have many birds in the garden. I use a heavy concentration of Ecover Zero liquid soap in a pump-up sprayer and that always does the job for me in the greenhouse. Outdoors it can help to move bird feeders nearer the tree or vice versa if you don't want to spray.
