Problem with palm not sure the variety.

Hi guys I have had the palm for a few years now it's never seemed to have grown it's looking really bad like it's dying, should I just give up now or is there something I could do.i currently have it in a pot but it's been in the ground too.

    i think a lot of palms (not all) have deep tap roots.  a pot is definitely going to slow it's growth.

    go onto YOUTUBE and look for YORKSHIREKRIS and he has a great garden full of different palms, and very useful tips for growing them if you really want to pursue.

    it looks like a canary palm (from the canaries, not the little yellow birds) they don't like cold when they're young, it would need winter protection.
    the rot in the top makes me think its had water in the top that frozen, it might be past helping unfortunately
