flowering plants without trellis

AlielliAlielli Posts: 1
I live n the Scottish Borders in a fairly sheltered spot. My house is wooden and I have high troughs along the back wall which I want to fill with flowerng bushes of some kind ( something that's more sprawling than compact) but I don't want t attach a trellis to the wooden wall and I don't want it to completely cover the back wall, just to add colour and an nteresting shape. Thanks in advance

What size are the troughs, and what direction do they face? Do  you want annuals, or something more permanent?
That will help with suggestions.  :)
It's a place where beautiful isn't enough of a word....

I live in west central Scotland - not where that photo is...

A nice red stem dogwood, free standing, not too dense, leaves/flowers in spring summer and red stems in winter. Easy to cut back to fill whatever size you need.
