Shrub ID

Hey folks, can anyone identify these two plants? I think the one on the left is a hebe although my girlfriend swears it's a veronica. The other one I think is a bay laurel. They're both evergreens.

As you can see they're looking a bit straggley  so I'm also looking for tips on how and when to prune them to encourage more bushy growth

    Hebe = Veronica
    The other looks like Bay, Laurus nobilis

    Without doubt a Hebe on the left ; prune with secateurs (not shears) down to the next lateral shoots to maintain some shape .
    Your Bay Laurel treat likewise , just take down to where you require . It will soon recover .

    PS  Tell your girlfriend Veronicas are herbaceous perennials ! ;)

    Actually Hebe / veronicas are classified as (sub-)shrubs. ;)
