Have i goofed up? I've done gone planted Physalis in an island bed!

Ever the spendthrift i collected seeds of a physalis found in an alley whilst walking the dogs.  I congratulated myself and planted them out last year.  I was chuffed to see them return in the last couple of days but when moving a heuchera to a space between them i was shocked to see the root run and the size of the white fleshy roots (aah, bindweed, ground elder flasbacks!!) they are also coming up in the lawn 😕

Can i hear from anyone else who has made this mistake and is it recoverable given that it's a young colony?

I plan to dig up as much as poss tomorrow and pot some in a large pot but has the monster already been unleashed in your experience?

Yes, had a free packet of seeds on a mag some years ago, it does trail everywhere, I just keep gently pulling it back to the main plant and chop them off.  I don’t even like it much.   It does trail like ground elder.

I love the pods and colour at an unusual time of year and they fit my hot colour bed perfectly so I'm reluctant to pull them out but maybe sinking in a pot would help me control it?

I love Physalis and I grow it in a sunken pot and it works well, but I have a dwarf variety. In the middle of the winter I am always touched to see the skeleton lanterns revealing the glowing fruit which has previously been so well hidden.

a bin full! I wish I could get it to go like that. Some invasive plants are surprisingly hard to get established
