Bay Tree

Planted in garden, shaped into two ball design, lower section branches and leaves dying off. Had to cut out affected sections leaving big unsightly gaps. Can anyone help?

Possibly all that pruning has allowed an infection to enter one of the cuts.

    Something like Phytophthora ramorum.

Not much you can do if the stems are dead other than to remove them, as you have done, and wait for others to fill in the gaps.
Apophthegm -  a big word for a small thought.
