It all depends - dahlias come in lots of different sizes!

But think big. Dahlias like lots of space .
  • i was thinking more in the diameter one said it has to be 14 inches but another said 12 inches would be OK so I was looking for someone else's opinion for confirmation
  • I have grown dahlias in pots and I would think 12 to 14 inches in diameter would be adequate.  However I did find that very tall dahlias in pots tend to blow over in strong winds here.  I have grown Bishop of Llandaff in pots putting them out of the way of strong winds..

Some dahlias grow well over a metre tall ... they need a well sized pot or they will overbalance in the lightest winds ... check the height of your dahlia varieties.

Gardening in Central Norfolk on improved gritty moraine over chalk ... free-draining.
