Sweet Peas

Paddock4Paddock4 Posts: 1
Hello
I have planted sweet pea seeds in root trainers which have started to grow. As I’m a complete novice to this, I’d appreciate some tips. I’ve looked on the internet but some of the  information is confusing. I’ve pinched out the top leaves but would like to know when to re pot. The plants are in my garage and I’m wondering if they’re getting enough light as they appear to be quite spindly. Any hints and help would be appreciated.
Thank you.

Garage is not good, they need lots of light.
I usually plant my first lot out at end of March.

At this stage in their growth cycle the plants should be growing on in light but cool conditions, preferably between 6° and 10° C. I’m looking to plant mine out in a couple of weeks but they’re moving into a raised bed where the soil is comparatively warm.

My sweet peas are 12ft high with masses of leaf Flowers started well but lot fewer now with quite short stems. Why?

Stems usually get shorter late in the season. Feed at least every three days with a high potash fertiliser such as tomorite.  I had long stems for two weeks, then very short. I have fed them three times in two weeks and the stems are getting longer again. Make sure you cut off any going to seed, so they put the effort into making new flowers.
