Found this weird jelly substance

Sorry if the photos upset anyone. When I first saw it I thought it was a weird unthawed cluster of ice. Then I touched it and it was squishy.

A quick Google suggests it could be unfertilized frog spawn, which is feasible as I have a busy bird feeding station a metre from where I found it, and they might have preyed on the frog or toad. However they little lumps are smaller and less spherical than spawn ive seen before.

Another suggestion is it is water retaining balls from compost but this is a cluster and I'd expect those balls to be dispersed.

And another idea is it is a funghi but I never saw funghi like this.

Anyone have any more concrete ideas what it is?

Many thanks in advance.

It looks like water-retaining gel to me (each little bit is kind-of angular).

Doncaster, South Yorkshire. Soil type: sandy, well-drained

Looks like those water retaining gel crystals to me too.
