My veg garden is done!.. again!

Well after another redesign and some very hard graft, I’ve finished my new veg garden- just need a bit more bark chip/compost! I’m putting arches over the square beds for squash/beans and cucumbers and I’m much happier with the layout! Giving myself a big pat on the back for this! 😀

It's looking good. Looking forward to seeing your arches in, it's a good use of space growing things upwards.

Thanks Zoomer! It ‘s broken me a bit building it again, I ache in places I didn’t know existed! Just getting a stake in the ground is a mammoth task as there are so many stones! I’m really looking forward to planting it and I’m just re-planning that, so may come back with questions on successional planting!
  • Did you use treated wood for the sides of the raised beds? Looks like you've painted it?

I used a mix of scaffold boards and gravel boards- painted yes, in black to match the fence. They won’t last forever, but I plan to move it in 3 or 4 years anyway, once the kids are ‘too old’ to need so much space to run around!

Looks [email protected], very neat and tidy and easier to grow crops that way.

Thanks! It’s much better now the design is more formal, it was just too scrappy before and as it’s on full view in the garden and from the house it needed to be more refined, so I’m really pleased. My back isn’t quite so happy, but some wine is helping lol!

Ta. Just been looking at scaffold boards - not cheap!

No, I was lucky as I already had a few from a previous larger/higher bed, so reused those and bought 3 more. The gravel boards are good value but not as deep as the scaffold boards and a little more flexible so staking is important, otherwise they can bow a bit.
