Saskatoon Shrubs
in Fruit & veg
.
Has or does anyone grow Saskatoon shrubs, if so how easy are they to get to fruit and how tall do they grow?
Also do they need netting like cherries which attract every blackbird, thrush and starling from miles around before they are ripe!
Cheers,look forward to any answers!

I grow Amelanchier lamarckii and A. canadensis, mainly as ornamentals, but I do eat the fruit from them too, when the blackbirds don't get to them first anyway!
They are very easy to grow and to be honest, I do absolutely nothing with them, I just leave them to get on with things themselves.
I think the plant that they call Saskatoon is technically only Amelanchier alnifolia, of which I have no experience of growing.
