Wondering what to plant with verbena bonariensis? Considering colour & succession

  • VB is quite a tall plant, so is suitable at the back of the border (its another thing that it self seeds all over the place in a surprising manner).

you can plant anything infront really, as most other garden plants are smaller than VB (+ it lets light through). For example i have roses, Lupins, Alliumd and Foxgloves infront of it. Good Luck!

I can't think of anything that it doesn't go with. If it's happy , it'll self-seed all over a sunny garden. What colours do you like?
    In London. Keen but lazy.

It looks good with ornamental grasses - always assuming you like them - and popping up in borders at will amongst all sorts of other perennials.  I had it with lysimachia clethroides alba, persicarias, agastaches, peonies, all sorts.

I’ve got mine in the grass border and last year had ammi majus going through too. This year the yarrows will flower up there and I also have alliums and salvias... it will go anywhere!
  • I have it mingled with Rudbeckia Goldstrum and Geum Totally Tangerine
Does look quite contrasting between both plants imo
