Ideas for companion plants with lupins in large container

Hello.  I have a large south-facing container that is about 8' x 6'.  The soil is recently added compost so should be good. I've planted 9 lupin plants that are expected to be 50cm tall and 30cm across when in flower.

I'm looking for suggestions for other plants, ideally perennials to plant in the container that will give interest at other times of the year when the lupin aren't in flower.  Anything colourful/bold/unusual would be super! Thank you so much

How about some wafty grasses, something see thro like stipa tenuissima? or a hardy geranium like Rozanne which could sprawl nicely down the sides. Are the lupins all the same colour? You will need to protect them against slugs - it's like caviar to them!
Hopefully you've got a damp course membrane between the soil and the building?

  • Ah thanks Lizzie. The planter has been there for years and backs onto a garage so DPM no problem.  Thanks so much for your tips. I did do some grasses and they looks great!
