Best modules trays

Morning! I’m just wondering which module trays people use? I’m looking for some sturdy ones that will last a while, I don’t want to spend a huge amount but equally don’t want to buy trays that break as soon as you try and pick them up! Also what size hole do you find most useful for veg growing? Thanks

  • My broad beans are in halved kitchen roll inners (fatter than loo rolls), standing in supermarket veg trays. Free, and just plant the whole tube, so no root disturbance.

I will be making up loads of these soon, Plant the whole lot when they’ve grown on.

  • I have some plastic Wilko tray module inserts they are on there fifth year and still OK.
Plastic I know but were cheap at the time, I also use old yogurt pots, toilet rolls, kitchen rolls even old tin cans just punch a few holes in the bottom with a nail or if your posh use drill :) anything I can lay my hands on really.

Thanks everyone , I do reuse things when I can but in terms of growing space modules are my best bet. I don’t have a greenhouse and only 2 windowsills and a kitchen island (under skylights), so I have to be as regimented as I can, or I’m struggling, odd shaped pots make it less efficient lol! Will take a look at Wilko, am also considering polystyrene as I could use in the base of pots when it does break...mmmmm choices!
