Dividing hellebours

Hi can anyone advise please? I have a large clump of oriental hellebour which is just about to flower.  Csn the plant can be successfully divided. If so when is the best time to do it. Thanks

The Internet says you can divide hellebores in September, but I've never tried it.  You can also collect ripe seed and sow it immediately - the babies won't be identical to the parent, but could be interesting...
Since 2019 I've lived in east Clare, in the west of Ireland.
  • I wouldn't risk doing it now as I would hate to spoil the flowers but maybe I'll try in September.  Thanks.

Definitely when the soil is beginning to cool down is the optimum time to divide H. x orientalis. When you do, do not allow the roots to dry out in between lifting the plant, splitting and replanting. They absolutely hate that.

Thanks, I'll make sure they don't dry out.  😊
