I'm a new gardener and trying to get to grips with what is in my garden. Really struggling to identify this below. Seems to spread by suckers and the suckers are prickly. Winter and summer photos below.
Could be Rosa Rugosa, mine is just like that at the moment. the pink flowers are a Geranium, all the weed behind it is Ground Elder, nightmare! dont know what’s up the wall.
Gardening on the wild, windy west side of Dartmoor.
I agree with raspberry, maybe Lyn didn't see the 3rd pic where the canes have obviously spread just in the way raspberries do. Also agree that the low-growing greenery in pic 2 could be ground elder.
A trowel in the hand is worth a thousand lost under a bush.
Thanks everyone for your help. I had thought possibly raspberry too but don't remember seeing fruit last year (although between the birds and the ground elder swamp maybe I just missed them). It'll probably all have to come out when I tackle the ground elder but was keen to know what it was in case it requires special removal or was something exciting.
