Tree disease

Hi,

A tree in my front garden seems to have a disease and has got worse over several years, although it has continued to bloom. I am reluctant to remove completely as it is so important to wildlife, birds butterflies and bees. 
I have taken cuttings just in case.

Can I do anything with it or is it a thankless task?

I don't think you can bring that back but dead wood is good for wildlife as well.

Thanks, you make a good point.

As I say it seems to continue to grow each year which amazes me.  

The birds wont know where to go!

Sometimes trees go on for years when you think they've had it. I have a laburnum that's been going downhill for years, dead branches and now a huge white fungus at the base. But it's still budding up for this Spring

I think this might be a laburnum. Fantastic vibrant yellow in the summer

sounds right, they don't live forever, mine was probably planted in 1960  when the house was new

I have a cherry tree that has been on its last legs for years, but is still giving a good crop every year.

@john1072,..don't give up on it yet,..take hope from Kew Gardens Pagoda Tree Stypholobium japonicum,..its 259 years this year since it was planted in Kew,..it still produces a mass of white blooms despite being held up by metal supports and a brick support,..plus the trunk was filled in part due to decay.

As yours is still blooming do some work on it to help it survive longer.
