What is this plant?

Hi Everyone. I’m a very new gardener and as part of my New Years resolution I am starting a gardening journal. I’m not sure what this is....
Many thanks in advance. I’m sure it’s something very common and well known but I can’t find it in my tree and shrub expert book.
