Help Choosing A Blackcurrant variety

I have an area near my front door for two blackcurrant bushes. The location is south facing, loamy soil with a low hedge behind it (Portuguese Laurel 3ft).

I have looked at various varieties but I have no experience of growing them. Big Ben is one I am possibly  interested in as the description says large berries and a sweeter taste. I would like to try another variety.

I have looked at redcurrants but I find the flavour is not as good as blackcurrants.

Your suggestions are most welcome.

    Hello @Uncle Mort ...... love your name ..... "I Didn't Know You Cared" is a classic   :)

I've just planted some blackcurrant bushes, and chose Big Ben and Ben Connan.
Some useful info from RHS below ....

Only Ben Connan and Big Ben have the AGM .... others have had theirs withdrawn.
    Hope this is helpful.

Thanks for the link, that has really helped. Big Ben and Ben Connan look the most suitable considering they have been trialled and have an AGM.

I just need to find a quality online nursery.

    Any suggestions

Hi  Mort .... I bought mine locally .... I like to see what I'm getting when I buy shrubs ... also I'm too mean to pay the postage  :*

I think they are both popular varieties so you may find them near to where you live.

I got some bushes from Blackmoor Nurseries.
Very pleased with them. I got Ben Conan and Ben Sarek  - both smallish bushes
