Repotting an old amaryllis bulb.

I have an amaryllis bulb which I have had for over three years.  I think it is time to change the compost. One book says mixing manure into the compost, not very keen on this and I would only need a small amount. What can I use instead and do I need to feed it? A green shoot has just started to appear.

if a green shoot has started to appear it might be too late this year to re-pot (as in take off all the existing compost and re-pot, if you're wanting to move it to a slightly large pot and not disturb the root ball then potting up would be fine), make sure you give it liquid feed while it grows and then re-pot once it has died down in standard multi-purpose compost with a little grit added to it for drainage.
