I'd never heard the "don't plant until November" until MD mentioned it on GW. I've planted them in August and September in the past . Have I missed something? They all grew perfectly well and flowered. Why shouldn't they be planted until November?
Hosta - in cold areas, you certainly don't have to worry about them being planted early in the ground. That's the usual reason for planting later - colder conditions to avoid the virus. Most of mine are in pots because of the soil conditions, but in better bits I can plant in September, and usually do that.
It's a place where beautiful isn't enough of a word....

It's something I've always been told. My mom never planted tulips until after the first frost. MD said it was to avoid Tulip Fire. Which I assume is some kind of disease?
