What is the best way to plug a fox hole about 1 metre long?

Tried filling it back with earth but fox just dug it out again and used 'get off' repellent & human urine but no effect as newspaper placed in hole removed next day. Thinking of trying neat Jeyes fluid on rag then refilling hole & wire mesh top secured down - any advice?

Paving slabs put in vertically might do the trick. To be honest though , if they want in, they'll find another entrance opportunity somewhere else. or jump in, unless you have very high walls or fences.
Electric fencing is teh only way of keeping them out properly.
Are you sure it's a fox, and have you had some damage or other issues because of it?
It's a place where beautiful isn't enough of a word....

I live in west central Scotland - not where that photo is...

is this a tunnel under a fence or a burrow?
if its a burrow its protected by law
also are you sure its fox and not badger?
  • Definitely a fox as it habitually roams garden at night but never made burrow before

Any chance of a picture? I'm curious as to why the fox is digging as dealing with the cause is probably more productive than dealing with the consequences.
Tradition is just peer pressure from dead people
