Is this normal?

My Opal plum tree has decided to blossom. I did not have any fruit this year which was not unexpected because last year the crop was massive. We had to trim it back a little earlier this summer as it was out growing its space but now this has appeared at the end of one of the prunes branches. Is this normal or just the result of a very unusual growing year?

I would put it down the the weather. Sometimes after a long spell of dry, then a dose of rain, the plant is fooled into thinking it is Spring again. The bees will enjoy the blossom, but fruit will not ripen, so just break off anything that sets after the blossom drops.  My wisteria had a random flower in August.
  • Yes there have been lots of comments on the Anyone done any Gardening today thread. Lots of us have had odd things flowering out of season & I think @fidgetbones is absolutely right. This time last year I posted a picture of an Apple on my tree with blossom at the end of the same branch. Plants just do odd things sometimes.
