This has suddenly appeared in the woods near me, it looks a bit like a Salvia, is it? Slight aromatic/medicinal scent to the leaves.

Mountainous Northern Catalunya, Spain. Hot summers, cold winters.

     Yes, Salvia glutinosa https://www.rhs.org.uk/Plants/16333/Salvia-glutinosa/Details

Very pretty! I'd have it in my garden if I can get hold of some seed. Maybe next year.

Doncaster, South Yorkshire. Soil type: sandy, well-drained

Hello Nollie - it looks like either Salvia glutinosa or Salvia koyamae

The stickiness of Salvia glutinosa is very noticeable and it's a more upright plant. Neither of these can be seen in the photo. Did you test it for stickiness, Nollie? Have you a photo of the plant growing?

Hello, yes it’s definitely a bit sticky and it’s very upright, so thank you everyone for the ID. I don’t have a photo of it growing, just this sample I plucked this morning - there was lots of it so I didn’t feel too guilty about that. I might have to take some cuttings, perfect for my woodland border!

Oh, I think that is actually normal for leaves on summer season.
