Persicaria amplexicaulia... to splice or not to splice?

Hello all,
Can I just split this and re-pot it? Now, and plant out in spring, or better some other time? Can I put it straight back in situ now? Thanks

    it's almost indesctructable so you can do anything to it and it'll bounce back.
    IMHO it'll be better in the ground now , making new roots , than leaving it in a pot.
