Wormery

i have a new wormery since march. I need some advice about adding 2nd tray. It is now 5 months and compost is not yet reach 2 inches to the top edge tray before add 2nd tray. Do you experiencing similar problems. I have a little pool of sump which is fab! I have load babies and adults worms look active..

    How often do you add to it and what are you adding?

  • Every week but check they eat all well first before add them. Vegs dry tea leaves left over food rice broken egg shells rotten spinach strawberries leaves (their fav!)carrot peels.. damp shredded paper on top

    Well, therby lies a tale. I had mine in the polytunnel, but , erm, I think it got too hot. :(:'(
    I've started again, outside this time , but I'll move in when it gets cold .

  • I use to have a wormery but like you found it took a long time so in the end I gave up had hundreds if not thousands of worms, I also had some large plastic compost bins so I divided the worms between these and it work a treat.

  • That’s interesting. Does it mean that I can’t put any left over cooked food in the bin compost due to rats would attract inside?

    I put cooked veg, not that we have much left over, but not cooked meat.
