Actinidia kolomikta brown leaves

Hi GWers, I have an actinidia kolomikta which has grown well this summer, I planted it last summer. I watered it every other day during the really hot weather, but now a lot of the leaves are brown and crumpled. I’ve not checked to see if the neighborhood cats have attacked it but I think I would have noticed chewed up stems.
Anyway, any ideas why the leaves have gone brown and we’re only in August?!

Shedding leaves early is a protective mechanism , often seen after a hot summer. A lot of trees are shedding leaves early. It reduces stress on the tree. There will be an early autumn unless we get a lot of rain in the next few weeks.

Oh right, ok. Wow gardening is quite a holistic education. Thank you!
